Protect Yo Self Before You Wreck Yo Self

5 ways to protect your energy

Modern life has got us all screwed. We are always drained and burned out because most of us are not being mindful of who and what we give our energy to. Those of us who are mindful are often doing a shoddy job of guarding our energy against the drama that is life.

Before you tell me how “energy” is some woo-woo bullshit, take a few seconds to answer the questions below.

Have you ever felt emotionally and physically drained after being around someone?

Have you ever felt awful after listening to a friend vent to you?

Did you ever go somewhere and felt depressed after for no reason at all?

Do you ever feel exhausted after reading the news?

If you said yes to any of these, you are letting circumstances outside of you impact your energy. That’s a major no bueno considering we all have a finite amount of energy to go around each day. When we are drained by the people, places, and things around us, we end up off balance, stressed, anxious and sick. (Yes, stress can cause all kinds of illness. Don’t believe me, ask a doctor.) Being off balance can also stress your relationships and turn everything you touch to chaos.

Fortunately, you can take a few simple steps every day to secure the vibe and prevent yourself from running on E. These 5 actions have helped me to recognize when my energy is off so I can cleanse, ground, and protect myself. Yes, some of it is woo-woo bullshit because that’s my M.O. in case you didn’t know.

5 Ways to Protect Your Energy

Become aware.

You can’t fix what you don’t know broken, so make being present a moment by moment practice. The more aware you are of your surroundings, the easier it is to identify people, places, things, and thoughts taking you away from peace into madness. One caveat, not all discomfort is bad. Most discomfort, in fact, is pushing you to learn and grow. Knowing what to lean into and what to let go of takes time and a deep connection to your intuition. Cultivate that.

Set and enforce clear boundaries.

Like I mentioned on IG last week, I have been terrible at setting boundaries most of my life. Maybe I didn’t get enough hugs as a kid, I don’t know. As I have gotten older I have learned how valuable it is to have boundaries in every relationship I am engaged in. For me, boundaries range from telling a friend I am not going to engage in certain conversations to saying no when I mean it. Whatever boundaries you set, be vigilant about enforcing them.

Unfriend. Unfollow. Block. Delete. Girl, Bye!

You are responsible for the people you allow into your life, family included. If anyone is berating you, disparaging you, or is draining your energy in any way, they can go. That goes for social media as well. I do not suffer bigots or fools in my feed or having debates on my timeline. They don’t get an explanation and an ounce of my energy. I delete, unfollow, unfriend, or block and keep it moving.

Put up your guard.

Yes, I said paid put up your guard. When you have to spend time in a situation you know will leave you feeling attacked, squashed or exhausted, do this. First, say a quick prayer setting the intention to keep your energy yours and to feel safe and protected. Next, imagine a white or gold bubble surrounding you. Every time someone says or does something out of pocket, imagine their energy bouncing off of you and going right back to them. Then go get a glass of wine and sit in the corner until it’s time to go.

Clean and clear your space.

To quote Magick Moods, I need you to smudge so hard evil spirits cannot find you. Every morning I reach for sage, palo santo, Florida water or holy water to set my energy before I walk out the door. Before I go to bed, I do the exact same thing to shake off the day’s energy. Before you rush to your nearest botanica for cleansing herbs and waters, you can do the same thing in the shower. Turn the water to cool and set the intention to cleanse and clear anything you may have picked up.

Like I said, not every negative experience needs to be immediately cleared away. Sometimes they are teaching you what you don’t like, don’t need, or need to fix to move up a level. They can also be a sign to get help. Remember, crystals and meditation do no cure depression, therapy does.

Yes! #SecureTheVibe all 2018. I love it. I started to cleanse and rid my social media of negative people and vibes sometime last year and it works wonders. People never wanna hear me when I say you become what you consume. I’m not trying to log into Facebook every morning and read a bunch of negativity. It sets the tone for MY day as well and nah, I’m good. Lovedddd this !

Yes!!! People stop at “You are what you eat” not realizing that everything we consume impacts us, from social media, TV and radio, to the ideas and thoughts of your friends and family.

This touched on everything that I have experienced in the past with being everyone’s go to and things that I have learned recently. For years, I allowed myself to be used and dumped on by fri nds ( unbeknownst to them). I was so drained mentally that I couldn’t muster up enough strength to deal with my own “stuff”. I let go of all my”friends” besides a handful. Recently, I have met a lady that introduced me to smudging and the energy within stones. I am happy to say that I am no longer weighed down.
