I have been in a wardrobe rut for months. My go to tank dress has seen better days, yet I still throw it under everything when I have “nothing to wear.” Why? I’m lazy and it’s comfortable. Now that the weather is cooler and I’m forcing myself to shop my closet, things are starting to get stressful. Not Election 2016 results stressful, but it’s coming in close. With back to back client meetings all week at the 9-5, I am two steps away from wearing a cute top and jeans every day. Can we say #basic?
Of course, there isn’t a thing wrong with basics. Thousands of pages in glossy mags have been devoted the clothes we have to own. That doesn’t mean basics are all we have to wear. We also don’t have to be basic when wearing something tried and true. Case in point, my little white dress remix.
I got this high-low white dress from Zaful Summer ’15. It’s airy, easy to wear, and a pain in the ass to keep wrinkle free. It is also aces at hiding a food baby if you happen to live where there are taco trucks on every corner. In other words, it is pretty much dress goals–minus the wrinkle thing.
Yes, it’s post Labor Day, but I’m not that kind of Southern Belle. I’m more like Blanche Devereuax and I do what I want, including wearing my little white dress as a top. Just throw on a little leather, sturdy denim, a bit of gold and a pager, and remember how great it feels to be the center of attention. Even if you are only the center of your own attention.
