When it comes to makeup I’m a less is more kind of girl. There are no contour palettes, heavy highlighting, or brows on fleek around here. My day-to-day makeup is all about flawless, fresh skin and a popping lip. With spring in full swing, there’s not time like the present to update my usual dark lip looks. Thankfully, Maybelline has a bevy of spring-ready colors with matching lip liners to get me together.
Before I go any further, let’s talk about my aversion to drugstore beauty brands. Outside of the occasional mascara or emergency purchase, I tend to stay away from drugstore brands. The formulas aren’t typically brown skin friendly and not being able to try before I buy is a major turn off. That is why I have spent the past decade giving all my money to department stores. I can’t say that it has left my wallet happy but it has worked for my face.
After trying Maybelline’s Color Sensational Shaping lip liners and lipsticks, I’m ready to reevaluate my stance on drugstore brands. The lip liners go on smooth and come in a wide range of colors that compliment my skin. Each shade is great alone or layered under one of the Color Sensational lipsticks. The only downside is the thickness of the liner itself. While the precision point is perfect for lining and shaping, I broke two of them trying to fill in my lips. Part of that is on me for being a bit rough with the application.
To update my day-to-day lip look for spring, I am all about the nudes and 90s mauves in this collection. The Magnetic Mauve, Totally Toffee, Dusty Rose and Nude Whisper pencils have worked their way into my travel makeup bag. I’ve been pairing them with the Toasted Toffee, Born With It, and Warm Me Up Color Sensational lipsticks for a nude pout worthy of KKW without the Kardashian price tag. Guess you know what lip look I’ll be wearing until they run out.
