Style Hacks | Red Lipstick, My Savior

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, “On the list of things I have to worry about, makeup and clothes are not present.” Sure, I love doing makeup and hair and getting dressed up as much as the next girl does. When it comes to my daily grind however, I am usually only about ten minutes away from being late to everything so my wardrobe has to be easy to navigate and my beauty routine is down to three steps. While eyeliner, shadow, and foundation are not on my daily to do list, one thing I never leave home without is a great lip. For those days when a solid lip is all I leave home with, that lip has to be red.

The beauty of a red lip is that the right shade not only instantly brightens your skin and teeth, it also fools everyone into thinking you have on a full face of makeup. Don’t believe me? Wake up tomorrow and only put on your best red lipstick and watch how people react as though your blowout isn’t stale, your shirt isn’t wrinkled, and you don’t look like a lukewarm mess aside from the lipstick. Due to red lipsticks ability to obfuscate the masses, I always slick it on when I am sick, hungover, or exhausted.

The two reds that I live for are MAC’s Russian Red and YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 204 Rouge Scandal. I know everyone dies over MAC’s Ruby Woo, it’s a great blue based red that looks good on most skin tones, but I am deathly allergic to some ingredient in that formula. I can wear other matte lipsticks and every other color by MAC but one swipe of Ruby Woo and my lips look like a plastic surgery nightmare. That said, find a red that looks great on you, buy it en masse, and don’t be surprised if people ignore your every flaw and focus only on your luscious red lips.

I totally agree! I use this tip but never really consciously thought about the fact that I was using it in that way. I LOVE a nice matte red lip and it’s definitely my go to on days that I don’t feel like getting “dressed up”.

Thanks doll! I used to hate a red lip on me until I had a makeup artist help me find the right shade and show me how to work it all day without having the color bleed all over my face. Since then it’s been my back up go to after deep berry. Keep trying you’ll find your shade.
