While black is easily the happiest of all colors, sometimes a girl has to go nude.
I am by no means turning my back on all black. I mean, without my signature color I’d be just another Southern Belle. (Nah!) There just comes a time in a girl’s life where she has to luxe it up a bit. When that time comes, mixing nudes is the easiest way to look luxe for less.
I don’t know what it is about nude and camel colors, but they scream BCBG – the French term not the brand. It’s almost as if stepping into earthy beige tones instantly turns me into Catherine Deneuve in Belle du Jour. You know minus the whole prostitute thing. It’s chic, safe, and incredibly lush when done well.
Unlike all back everything, styling nude requires some skill when it comes to mixing textures. A solid, no-fail texture for upping the ante on any look is suede. I don’t fully understand how or why, but mixing in a hint of suede seals the deal on even the most mediocre of looks. Combine your touch of suede with a sturdy knit, all in nude, and no one will believe you didn’t spend your rent money on your outfit. Trust me, I never do and I never walk into a room looking less than flawless. (That may or may not be 100% true but hey let’s not split hairs. )
Next time you want to go glam or are just stuck in an all black rut, go nude. It’s easier to pull off than you think and will make you the envy of the PTA. Unless of course, your skirt is as short as mine. That is not parent-teacher friendly but neither am I.
