I decided to study fashion in college for one reason, the clothes. To me, every day at work would be a mix of The Devil Wear’s Prada and LC’s internship on The Hills. Boy, was I wrong, and right.
True, I never worked at Vogue, but I did spend ten years working in the industry. At that time, I had the freedom to experiment with trends and develop my own style. My work wardrobe was full of dark denim, sheer silk tops, fun pencil skirts, and sick shoes. It didn’t hurt that I had access to awesome discounts.
Now that I’m working at a tech startup my work wardrobe hasn’t changed too much. I still live in dark denim and leather jackets, I just dress up way less often. Unless I have a client meeting, event, or tradeshow on the calendar, I’m giving Steve Jobs all day. Getting dressed has gotten easier, it’s also gotten less interesting.
With that in mind, I’m vicariously reliving my fashion days with these 5 work friendly looks. Hopefully, you’ll get inspired to change up your work wardrobe for the 9-9 and the 2000, I mean 2017.
